After a few simple queries in Google I have to conclude that Polish government sites aren’t secure enough. We can easily use “Google Hacking” to access a range of  information about server paths, databases configurations etc. Because of my findings I decided to write a post about “secure error reporting” in web applications.

Just like every company now and then we have some slack between projects. In general we use this time for acquiring new knowledge and product development for our own purposes. Recently, it popped into our minds, that we can also use this available time in a “more social” way. And that’s why we are gathering some ideas now. Do you need some help for free? Or do you know somebody who could use some help?

Successful outsourcing needs client’s trust

Outsourcing (nearshoring and offshoring included) your IT services to an external provider is a hard decision. Unfortunately, the media pays a lot of attention towards the outsourcing projects that failed. In general the reason of the failure is hardly ever well investigated nor described. In my opinion a very important cause is the lack of trust at the outsourcer’s side. Without this trust you use your provider just as a resource provider, you will never manage to excel together. However, a successful outsourcing partnership is based on mutual trust. So how to achieve this?

Common CV mistakes in IT recruitment

Based on hundreds of CVs I have scanned throughout my developer hiring career I fully agree that a good CV is a key to success! The purpose of a CV is to provide a recruiter with as much relevant information as necessary in the most approachable and cohesive manner. This is not always the case though. I have noticed a number of mistakes on CVs that in the case of some companies may spoil the chances of even the best man for the job. Here, at GOYELLO, we try not to be so strict and not jump at conclusions too hastily.

Monika Rosińska “Trudna sztuka motywowania pracowników IT” – “Tough art of motivating IT employees”

On this special presentation Monika Rosinska outlined how it is when there are conflicts and dissatisfied employees in the Company. To her opinion and I also agree with that, it is almost impossible to motivate the person without his internal ‘green light’ of doing this. Therefore motivating is more a way of understanding, what blocks certain person from being the most creative and productive. In general it is a matter of fulfilling the needs. If specific person has many basic needs that are not eased, then he is more and more unhappy. Since that moment the person stops giving and starts only taking.

Szymon Pobiega, VSoft “Inversion of Control in systems built using the Domain Object Model”

Generally, the Inversion of Control (IoC) architecture can be explained with the term “onion architecture”. What is the difference between the regular MVC architecture and the mysterious “onion”? In MVC we allow communication between layers externally (for instance the View layer can sometimes communicate with the Model layer). That is not happening in IoC because they we are allowing communication with nearby layers only. The second difference is in the level of coupling. In standard MVC where we have no interfaces between layers, we are highly coupled. Of course we can also encapsulate the layers into interfaces and then make it less coupled. But this is not the only improvement in IoC.
