It’s Read a Book Day today! At Aspire we love to read! We even have a quite impressive library at our office and our own library app.

Reading is good not only for your brain. It can have health and social benefits. Frequent readers tend to have lower stress levels, better memory and are better writers!

To celebrate Read a Book Day, we asked Aspirians, which IT books would they recommend. Here is their list:

Adrian, .NET Developer

Even bad code can function. But if code isn’t clean, it can bring a development organization to its knees. Every year, countless hours and significant resources are lost because of poorly written code. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Noted software expert Robert C. Martin presents a revolutionary paradigm with Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship. Martin has teamed up with his colleagues from Object Mentor to distil their best agile practise of cleaning code “on the fly” into a book that will instil within you the values of a software craftsman and make you a better programmer —but only if you work at it.

Michał, Software Developer

Piotr, Software Developer

Jakub, .NET Developer

The first update to a classic that is the standard reference for refactoring in over 15 years. Enhanced, web-based features including interactive examples, video snippets, code highlighting. Extensive use of JavaScript examples.

Ania, Business Analyst

Mateusz, Project Manager

Seweryn Rutkowski, Software Developer

Miłka, UX Designer

The first Polish edition of the iconic book on design. What determines whether an item is well or badly designed? When does it meet the users’ expectations, and when does it only satisfy the ambitions of the designer? What makes some items go down in history and others become forgotten? Donald Norman, an American cognitive psychologist and designer, talks about the functionality of design and what our relationship with objects is based on. Fascinating reading not only for students of industrial design and design.
